School Closed on Monday 11th December  –  Teacher Training Day

 

R E A D I N G :

It’s no surprise to us that Irish 10 year olds are among the world’s best readers.  The love of reading is nurtured at home so continue encouraging your child to read.

(1) Blarney Street Book Club  –  12th December we will have our Book Club.  Hot chocolate and marshmallows to everyone who read “The Goldfish Boy”.

(2) Reading for Fun  –  1st Class  –  Reading for Fun’s last day is tomorrow, Wednesday 6th December from 8:50 to 9:20.

(3) One Book Under Every Tree  –  We are encouraging every boy to ask Santa for a book again this year under the tree.

 

On icy mornings, the boys will line up in the hall instead of on yard.  Parents and children, please follow staff directions on these days especially.

6th Class  –  Penny Dinners

It’s that time of year again, 6th class will be collecting food for penny dinners up until Friday 15th December.  Penny Dinners welcomes non-perishable food that you would like to donate. Tinned Fruit, Peas and Beans, Sugar, Coffee, Soup, Gravy Granules, Jelly, Custard, Biscuits, Cooking Oil & Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper, Toilet Rolls & Paper Towels, Refuse Sacks, Tin Foil, Cling Film, Tea Towels, Hand Wash, Washing Up Liquid, Bleach, Pot Scourers, Disinfectant Kitchen Sprays.

 

CHRISTMAS CONCERT  –  21ST DECEMBER

Junior & Senior Infants at 10a.m.

All other classes at 11a.m. onwards.

 

 

School Half-Zips for Sale

Limited number of O’ Neills half zip training top with the school crest are available to buy for €40.  We will allow 4th, 5th and 6th class boys to wear the half zips in school.  Age 13 and Age 10/11 in stock at the moment. 

Draw for Christmas Hampers

Draw will be held at Christmas Concert on Thursday 21st December.  Tickets are now on Sale  –  €2 for one, €5 for three (can be bought from class teacher).

 

                                    Sciath na Scol   –  Sports Quiz

Our school team will visit Rochestown Park Hotel on Wednesday 6th December from 4p.m. to 6p.m. to participate in the Sciath na Scol yearly quiz.   Best of luck boys!

North Gate Cinema  –  “The Star”

The whole school will go to see a movie on Friday 22nd December  – 

the cost is €6 for one child and €10 for 2 or more in family.  The school will provide a snack pack (popcorn, drink and chocolate) to thank the boys for all the good work they have done for the community over the year.

 

Putting the “A” into STEM  –  STEAM

STEAM  –  Science, Technology, Engineer, Art and Maths.  We have added Art into our Stem Learning.

Sciath na Scol   –  Sports Quiz

Artist Stephen Brandes of The Domestic GodlessArtist with 6th Class students of Blarney Street CBS, Cork exploring the work of The Domestic Godless at Crawford Art Gallery through one of the great Learn and Explore events programmed to ensure young people have an opportunity to experience and engage in the art. 4th class boys visited Crawford Art Gallery for Science Week and had lots of fun.

 

Lifetime Lab  –  5th Class

5th class enjoyed visit to Lifetime Lab yesterday.  They learned about pushing, pulling motions, the force and gravity.  Well done boys!  Check out our twitter for more info.

 Assembly  –  Remembrance

At our last assembly the friends of Blarney Street were remembered during a beautiful ceremony.  4th class have organised book marks that can be given to those of the families remembered.

Positivity Week

A big thank you to Ms Elaine Condon and our student council for all their hard work for Positivity Week, the boys loved the positive quotes.

 

Graffiti Theatre Performance

The Graffiti performance for 1st and 2nd class yesterday was very successful, thanks to parents who came along and we hope you enjoyed it.

Science Week

What a fantastic day we had on Thurday!  4th class boys showed a range of experiments from Light and Magnets to Gears and The Human Body.  Some boys even got a chance to enter Virtual Reality and went on the International Space station.

Swimming  –  3rd Class

Swimming is continuing this Friday for 3rd Class  –  Cost is 50 for term, this cost is for bus, swimming pool and private swimming coaches.

          

Green Schools  –  Draughts

Draughts:  seal off your windows and doors to make sure you’re not losing heat due to draughts.

Lifetime Lab  –  Primary Science Quiz

Lifetime Lab are having a Science Quiz this Thursday in U.C.C. and our school quiz team are attending, best of luck boys. 

 

Lifetime Lab  –  5th Class

Lifetime Lab’s Shazia Waheed will work with 5th class this Thursday on the Explorers Marine Project.  5th class boys will also visit Lifetime Lab next Monday to do a Primary Science Workshop.

Reading for Fun  –  1st Class

Reading for Fun will continue tomorrow—Wed 22nd Nov, Tue 28th Nov. and Wed 6th Dec from 8:50 to 9:20.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Enrolling for September 2018.

For free pre-school on 1st September 2018, a child must have been born between 1st January 2014 and 31st December 2015.  A child can continue in free pre-school until they start primary school (once the child is not older than 5 years and 6 months at the end of the relevant pre-school year i.e. end June).

Assembly  – tomorrow at 8:40a.m.  –  4th class will perform

4th class will perform at our Assembly tomorrow at 8:40a.m.  This will be followed by a coffee morning (staffroom), for parents/guardians of 4th class boys.  We look forward to seeing you there.

 

           Positivity Week

Today’s positivity quote is “When life gets you down, do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do?  Just keep swimming.”

 

Graffiti Theatre Performance

Graffiti Theatre Group will give a performance of “Walking Man” on Monday 20th November for 1st and 2nd class.

11:00-11:50  1st Class   and   1:00-1:50 2nd Class

The cost is 5 per child, Parents/Guardians are also invited to attend.

Swimming  –  3rd Class

Swimming is starting on this Friday for 3rd Class  –  Cost is €50 for term.  Please have swimming togs, hat, goggles and towel.

1 degree:  Turn your heating down by one degree  –  this could knock 10% off your

 heating bill.

                   Science Week

Boys will have the chance to do experiments in the hall this Thursday for Science Week with Mr. Kelliher.

 

Crawford Art Gallery

6th class boys will visit Crawford Art Gallery tomorrow to make edible landscapes.

 

Reading for Fun  –  1st Class

Meeting with Caroline McCarthy (HSCL) in staffroom for demonstration of activities this Wednesday from 1:45 to 2:15p.m.  Changes to dates for Classroom Activities—Wed 22nd Nov, Tue 28th Nov. and Wed 6th Dec from 8:50 to 9:20.
